Styx drummer Todd Sucherman has legal problems

Would you ever have thought a drummer could get into legal trouble for doing something every player does virtually at every rock or pop gig?

Todd Sucherman has recently found himself in the midst of a legal battle, which broke out as a result of a Styx show played in Atlanta, GA in June 2015. During the show, the drummer threw his sticks towards the audience like he must have done thousands of times before. Female fan Lori Frederick has filed a lawsuit against Sucherman because one of the sticks allegedly hit her in the face, which (according to the plaintiff) caused bodily scarring. Additionally, Frederick claims a number of damages resulting from her injuries including the loss of benefit of the Styx concert tickets, her clothes ruined by blood stains, not being able to register for the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta and ‘loss of enjoyment of life‘ following the incident. The financial claim against Todd Sucherman is also to compensate for the woman’s medical expenses and loss of income.

TMB Productions – managing Styx at the time – is also listed in the lawsuit as ‘liable for the negligent acts of‘ (Sucherman).

Todd Sucherman is one of America’s finest drummers, who has done a great deal of session work for artists such as Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys) or Peter Cetera (Chicago). Since 1995, he has been touring and recording with US radio friendly rock legends – Styx. The band’s four consecutive albums are certified muti-platinum, having sold more than 2 million copies each. Those were: The Grand Illusion (1977), Pieces of Eight (1978), Cornerstone (1979) and Paradise Theatre (1981). Their Greatest Hits album (2005) has enjoyed double platinum sales in the US alone. Nine of the band’s singles rached Billboard Magazine’s Top 20. Sucherman first started collaborating with Styx as a session drummer due to the original drummer John Panozzo’s health problems. After his death in 1996, Todd Sucherman became a full-fledged member of the band.

HERE is one of the clips which should make Todd Sucherman the center of media attention. What a drummer indeed…
