Simon Phillips is one of the most prolific and influential drummers of his generation, who can easily be described as a genuine institution in the world of drums. The list of artists he has collaborated with (be it live or in the studio) would take up all the space we have for this article. Here are just a few of them: Mike Oldfield, The Who, Judas Priest, Jeff Beck, Tears For Fears, Gary Moore, Toto, Jack Bruce, David Gilmour, Brian Eno, Joe Satriani, Jon Anderson.
For over 30 years, Simon has successfully been leading his own fusion band, where he isn’t only responsible for drum parts, but also for composing and producing. On February 4, Phillips and his musicians drop the product of the band’s fifth studio incarnation. The album is aptly titled “Protocol V“. It was recorded by musicians known from the tour promoting the previous release (yes, you guessed it: “Protocol IV“). They are: Ernest Tibbs (bass guitar), Otmaro Ruiz (keyboards), Jacob Scesney (saxophone) and Alex Sill (guitar).
