Roland V-Drums zone during NAMM Show 2017 – the TD-50 module
NAMM Show is the biggest and most important event of this type in the world. As simple as that. This statement doesn’t even have to be elaborated on, it has to be verified in person. Having limited ourselves and our reports solely to drum-related products and events (which is only natural), we can still say that all the greats of the drumming industry (obviously including ROLAND), all those who count in this business and those who wish to achieve such a status attended NAMM 2017 as exhibitors. Also, we must not forget the artists who were present in Anaheim this year. Those included the likes of Steve Gadd, Steve Smith, Benny Greb, Vinnie Colaiuta, Mike Johnston, Danny Carey, Nicko McBrain, John JR Robinson, Daru Jones, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Gregg Bissonette, Rick Latham, Mikkey Dee and Roland endorsers – the great Billy Cobham and the excellent Michael Schack.
In our humble opinion, the V-Drums zone ROLAND put together for this year’s NAMM Show may actually have been the most interesting and best equipped out of all the booths set up by the competitors. The stage was oozing fat grooves and hot licks during live performances by the likes of the one and only Billy Cobham with his fusion trio and Michael Schack accompanied by Swedish keyboardist David Åhlund.
During intermissions between those perforamnces, the Roland TD-50KV area was constantly kept busy by Patrick Kennedy. This was where the musician, educator and 2012 Roland V-Drums American Champion presented all the functions offered by one of Roland’s youngest children and V-Drums flag ship – the Roland TD-50 module, which is the heart of the TD-50KV kit. The device is equipped with a whole range of new sounds whithout recycling old ideas. A user can load his or her own samples, create original kits while communication between the module and pads takes place via USB, which makes it possible to send more data over a shorter period of time. You can trust us, that’s just the tip of the iceberg…
