Włodzimierz “Vlodi” Tafel is the only professional working drummer in Poland, possibly the only one in the world, who plays drums using a full prosthesis for his leg. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to guess it is neither cheap nor everlasting.
As a teenager, Vlodi Tafel was diagnosed with bone cancer and as a result his left leg was amputated. Forced to give up playing soccer, he resolved to devote all his time and energy to the other love of his life – music. Thanks to his persistence and talent, he was admitted to the F. Chopin Music School in Warsaw, Poland. Two years later, he started to study drums at the Jazz Dept. there, which he finished with flying colours, earning his degree andthe title: „Musician – Drummer”.
Vlodi Tafel has done live and studio work for such renowned Polish bands and artists as: Futurobnia, Apteka, Róże Europy, Mr. Gil, Believe, Anita Lipnicka, Patrycja Markowska, Zbigniew Wodecki, Robert Chojnacki, Marek Kościkiewicz, oldBreakout, JemDżem, dollZ, or the Rock & Chopin project.
Currently, the band dollZ returns with new material, and the single to promote it is entitled „Jak ćmy” (‘Like Moths‘). As they say themselves: “We’ve invited Vlodi Tafel to do the video for the song. He’s probably the only drummer in the world who plays professionally without a leg. His story is a great lesson to anybody who has a self-esteem problem.“
The single is accompanied by a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a new leg prosthesis for Vlodi under the address www.pomagam.pl/w6tpwt
