Black Sabbath‘s saying their final goodbye to the fans has been an unfinished business since the band’s final album, titled “13” (2013), and the subsequent concert tour. Original drummer, Bill Ward, had to sit both out, allegedly due to health issues. Rage Against The Machine drummer, Brad Wilk, recorded the album, and Tommy Clufetos from Ozzy Osbourne’s band was tapped for the tour.
Recently, Ozzy made a comment about the situation from 10-11 years ago:
“I was sad that Bill wasn’t there. I mean, Tommy [Clufetos], my drummer, did a great job, but he ain’t Bill Ward. […] It wasn’t Black Sabbath that finished it. It’s unfinished. If they wanted to do one more gig with Bill, I would jump at the chance. Do you know what would be cool? If we went to a club or something unannounced and we just got up and did it. We started up in a club.“
In May, guitarist and founding member, Tony Iommi, said in an interview for SiriusXM:
“[…] I mean, it’d be something that’d be a nice thing to actually do, but whether it happens will be another thing. But we’ll see. I mean, who knows? […] But it would be nice, yes, to do a one-off, if that ever happens, yeah.“
Bill Ward remained silent until July 25. On that day, he took to his social media and wrote:
“Hey ya,
Bill Ward checking in regarding all the updates on a possible Sabbath show in England. I’m in for playing some of everyone’s old favorites. Loved playing them then, I’d love to play them one last time. I’m not going to talk about my health publicly except to say, everyday I’m pretty good for 76 years old, I’m active musically every day, and I have a very busy and gratifying life.
Love you all, all the f#&king time. Bill”
Who knows? Perhaps this could finally happen?
