Everybody in the drumming community knows Dom Famularo as one of the best and hardest working educators in the business. The man probably spends more time traveling and reaching the farthest corners of the world with the gospel of drums than he spends at home. At least, that was the case until the COVID-19 pandemic hit almost a year ago. Now, Dom does the exact same thing online with his ‘All Access‘ interviews and ‘The Sessions‘ panel.
Dom Famularo has also added yet another book (co-written with Stephane Chamberland) to his impressive catalog. The latest one is titled ‘The Weaker Side‘ and addresses the age-old challenge faced by every drummer: how to get the weaker hand and foot closer in skill and dexterity to the stronger side. Using a step-by-step set of rhythms, this 52-page book is designed to be practiced one page per week, giving an intensive one-year training session to strengthen the weaker side. The stickings and notation are designed to allow easy use by both right-handed and left-handed drummers. Broken triplet and 16th-note patterns, as well as flam patterns, are utilized in the exercises.
Taking his educational endeavors online, Dom has announced a Zoom webinar called ‘Develop Your Weaker Side‘, which obviously refers to the book. The topics to be discussed include:
- Developing technique
- Developing chops
- Practice exercises
- Q & A session
