SP Marching is a Dutch company specializing in marching drum manufacturing. One of the instrument lines in their product range is called “Víkingr” (“Vikings” in Old Norwegian).
The abovementioned line has just been enriched by two drum kit snare drums. They are:
- Freya (sized 14″ x 5.5″)
- Odin (sized 14″ x 6″)
The shells are made of Carbon, and are inspired by “Vegvisir” (“guide” in Islandic and Old Norse) – the Islandic Compass and symbol taken from a 19th-century Huld manuscript. The Vegvisirthat is often regarded as a symbol connected with the Viking age, although it has not been historically proven. These drums are named by gods from the Nordic mythology: Odin and Freya – the goddess of fertility.
It is also worth mentioning that the manufacturer has already announced “Odin” and “Freya” as the start of a larger line of instruments, which means we can expect more Carbon-shell snare drums soon.
