James Kottak died on Tuesday, the 9th of January 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. The news was announced by the drummer’s daughter, Tobi.
James Kottak was best known for being the drummer for Scorpions (1996 – 2016) and Kingdom Come (1987 – 1989, 2018 until his death), but he had also performed or recorded with such renowned acts as: Montrose, Warrant, Dio, McAuley Schenker Group and Buster Brown. He was also the leader of his own band, Kottak.
Kottak’s widely publicized split with Scorpions was due to the drummer’s alcoholism.
The cause of death has not been revealed as of yet.
James Kottak‘s former bandmates have issued a statement on social media:
“Very sad news… Our dear friend and Drummer for 20 years James Kottak has passed at the age of 61… James was a wonderful human being, a great musician and loving family man… He was our „Brother from another Mother“ and will be truly missed. Rock‘n Roll Forever. RIP James
