> > > BeatIt Test: Meinl Percussion 12″ Alpine Series Djembe

Some time ago, we received a package from Meinl Distribution. Knowing what awaited us inside, we immediately started unpacking in order to share the test results with you as soon as possible, because such instruments do not find their way to our HQ too often.

We are testing a Meinl Percussion 12″ Alpine Series Djembe

1. Test

We tested the Meinl Alpine Series Djembe in our recording facility. This time, the role of a laboratory technician was taken over by Patrycja Betley – a multi-percussionist and flautist, member of the band Same Suki, also associated with the bands Karolina Cicha & Spółka and Kayah & Transoriental Orchestra.

2. Basic product specification:

  • Series: Alpine
  • Size: 12′
  • Model: ADJ12-SI
  • Shell material: Synthetic
  • Head: Synthetic
  • Finish: Simbra
  • Weight: 4.500 Grams

3. Product and sound

Already at the first touch, we could feel how incredibly light, but also durable, the construction of the Meinl Percussion Alpine Series Djembe is. The instrument is equipped with a durable, synthetic head and has a unique body shape that emphasizes deep bass tones but also the necessary high frequencies. The djembe excellently responds to touch at all levels of dynamics. The robust and easy-to-use tuning system ensures consistent sound regardless of climatic conditions, as the manufacturer assures. This fact should be especially important for drummers playing in various weather conditions, be it street players or those doing open air festival gigs.

Moving on to our laboratory technician’s test, Patrycja presented single strokes – (bass, tone and slap) to show the full spectrum of colors that the instrument has to offer. Then she played a steady pulse, showing how musical and sonorous the djembe is. Under Patrycja’s hands, the instrument responded with full range of frequencies, which could also be heard on the microphone. We imagine that the djembe from the Alpine series will find its application among both professional drummers and those amateurs who want to start their adventure with the instrument. Its reasonable price is certainly an plus, too.
