Yamaha are launching a new series of electronic drum kits – the DTX6. The company recommend it “for all drummers who want to have fun, play like a pro, need a compact kit, and want to easily transfer their skills to acoustic drums”.
The line is built around the DTX-PRO sound module, which features over 700 sounds, 40 preset kits and storage for 200 more. The acoustic drum sounds are all real sounds recorded in world renowned recording studios by leading Yamaha artists. The unique natural ambience of the studios where they were recorded was also sampled.
Yamaha have also included a number of what they call Kit Modifiers (control knobs to alter the tone, compression and ambience of each sound in real time) plus a host of other effects allows for extensive sound-sculpting.
The series comprises three different kits with each model perched on a different market shelf:
The DTX6K-X is supposed to be an affordable entry-level option for younger drummers. It features a ten-inch cymbal, a Textured Cellular Silicone (TCS) snare, rubber toms and a separate hi-hat controller.
The DTX6K2-X locates itself in the middle of the range and features a three-zone TCS pad for the snare, rubber-pad toms, an additional HS650A hi-hat stand, an extra cymbal, as well as a 7.5″ KP90 kick drum pad with multi-layered cushioning to provide a more realistic feel.
The DTX6K3-X is a top-of-the-range electronic kit, offering an eight-inch snare pad, seven-inch tom pads alongside the KP90 pick drum pad, three triple-zone RHH135 cymbal pads as well as RHH135 hi-hat pads on the HS650A stand.
