Alesis are launching two new Special Edition electronic drum kits which feature mesh heads.
Surge Mesh Special Edition
The kit consists of:
- 10-inch snare drum pad
- Three 8-inch tom tom pads
- 8-inch mesh bass drum pad (a large surface area plays great with the included kick pedal but also easily fits a double pedal)
- 10-inch crash pad (w/ choke function)
- 10-inch ride pad (w/ choke function),
- 10-inch hi-hat pad with an expressive foot control pedal
- Four-post rack
The Surge Drum Module comes with 40 classic and modern ready-to-play kits. Any existing kit can be tweaked, or new user kits can be created from the 385 drum, cymbal, and percussion sounds built into the module. The backlit LCD screen is supposed to make navigation easy.
Drum and cymbal buttons are arranged to resemble the layout of a traditional kit for simple sound assignment and quick kit creation.
There are also learning features like 60 play-along music tracks and a metronome to help build timing and accuracy. There’s also a built-in AUX input for plugging in an external device, such as a phone or tablet.
Command Mesh Special Edition
It is an electronic drum kit that offers premium features such as large mesh drum pads that offer natural feel and playability.
The kit consists of:
- 10-inch snare drum pad
- Three 8-inch tom tom pads
- 8-inch mesh bass drum pad (the same as in the previous model)
- 10-inch crash pad (w/ choke function)
- 10-inch ride pad (w/ choke function)
- 10-inch hi-hat pad (w/ an expressive foot pedal)
- Four-post rack
The Command Advanced Drum Module features 74 kits (54 factory + 20 user) and 671 sounds that span a variety of genres and styles. Many of the sounds are also multi-sampled for more natural playability. Instead of one sound that gets louder or softer depending on how hard the drum pad is hit, you’ll hear slight variations in each hit, just like on an actual drum, for more nuanced playing to shine through without the risk of sounding artificial.
The Command Advanced Drum Module makes it possible to add user drum samples via USB in order to create one’s own unique kits. You can also record your performances directly on the module, with up to 5 internal tracks or 99 with a USB thumb drive.
