During Silesia Drum Festival in w Chorzów, Poland, we had the opportunity to interview the artists who performed on stage that day.
One of them was an excellent on-line educator and a great drummer, Siros Vaziri.
One of the things we asked him about was his Top 5 drummers.
Siros Vaziri: I don’t have an immediate list but I have some names. One of them is here – Benny Greb. He’s a big inspiration for me and has been for many years. I watch everything he does. I don’t really think that I play like him or try to play like him. It’s like this with a lot of drummers that I like. There are maybe a few things here and there that I might steal or wanna learn from but I try to be my own drummer.
Benny is a big inspiration. Also Chris Coleman, maybe even more so. He has been, we could probably say, my favourite for a long time.
Tomas Haake of the Swedish metal band Meshuggah is a huge inspiration, especially now. In the last year or so, I’ve really gotten even deeper into that. I’ve grown up with him and that music.
So that’s three. You’ve got Anika Nilles, actually even George Kollias, who’s here. I used to play a lot of metal. Not so much anymore but some of these guys are still in the back of my head and have been very inspirational, at least for some part of my journey. There’s many names. It’s very cool to be able to meet those guys and actually play with them on the same line-up. It’s a big step forward for me.
