Sabian have announced the winner of the first SABIAN – Dom Famularo – SEN Mentorship Award, which was established in agreement with, and is now awarded in honour of the late great Dom Famularo.
This year’s winner is Maksym Logosha from Ukraine, who was awarded the inaugural $2500 grant, and exclusive mentorship sessions with the full panel of judges.
Here is what the judges had to say:
“Max was a unanimous choice. His musicianship and especially his vision to lift people up in the middle of a difficult life situation made him stand out. He is a living example of ‘onward and upward,’” – David Garibaldi
“The choice was difficult. Max, however, made a personal and strong musical statement both with his musical presentation and his mission to use drumming as a vehicle to make lives easier in those difficult wartimes,” – Claus Hessler
“There were so many promising entries. Max’s entry stood out to me in his musical approach and his simple but beautiful message: ‘I just want to make people happy,’” – Jim Toscano
“Max demonstrates an extraordinary vision and passion, and he will undoubtedly utilize this program to enhance his playing career and support others. He truly embodies Dom’s vision in his spirit,” – Stephane Chamberland
“Max’s submission encapsulated all that we were looking for and we were delighted to have him as the first winner of this award. His future is bright and long may he travel onward and upward as a valued part of our community,” – Paul Quin
“Max embodies the perseverance, excellence, passion for music and continual learning and teaching that Dom championed,” – Rick Drumm
“I would like to personally thank all of mentors/judges/friends of Dom who are giving of their time to make this award so special. And thank you to all the other entrants. You are all winners in my eyes, and I was touched by everyone who entered,” Joe Bergamini
Max Logosha comments:
“My name is Max Logosha and I’m a drum teacher and musician from Ukraine. On the 21st of February [2022], the war came into my country and one day changed everything. Right now, to play music is a huge privilege. I think my mission and my point how I can be useful to my country and society is to help people to forget about war, to forget about crimes, bring some joy and happiness. I think it can be inspirational and I’d like to continue Dom’s mission to help people to be better persons, better drummers, better musicians. I just want to make people happy. Thank you.”
