Bartosz Nazaruk is a professional drummer, a graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, who specializes in folk music from Central and Eastern Europe. In the numerous bands and projects the man has been involved in, he has been incorporating the influences of world music in the broad meaning of the term (including Polish, Ukrainian and Jewish music) into Jazz, Pop and electronica. In his native country of Poland, he is known from recording and touring with such super popular acts as Zakopower, Kayah & Transoriental Orchestra, Dagadana or Maria Sadowska. He has also appeared on our website several times (HERE).

Currently, in the wake of the COVID-19, Bartek has been awarded a Ministry of Culture and National Heritage scholarship called “Kultura w Sieci” (‘Culture Online’), which has allowed him to kick off a project he has named “Wiejski Groove” (‘Village Groove’). In it, he deals with drum kit adaptations of traditional folk rhythms originated in Poland and Eastern Europe.

So far, Bartek Nazaruk has published three episodes, where he presents the following rhythms: mazurek, hora and oberek. Each episode is a video clip, approximately 10 minutes long Narrated in Polish but with English subtitles), in which Bartek describes the origins of a given rhythm, breaks it down from a drummer’s perspective, and performs an entire tune applying it, accompanied by a guest musician. Not only do we think it is an excellent idea, but also worth drum manics’ and world music lovers’ attention. Bartek is planning to take a closer look at such rhythms as: polka, bulgar or khosidl. More videos coming soon! Don’t miss them on the Bartosz Mikołaj Nazaruk FB profile!

Bartek Nazaruk is an official Impression Cymbals artist and a Ludwig Drums enthusiast.
