A year ago, on March 25, 2022, Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins, passed away while on tour with a show to be played in Bogotá, Colombia. He was found unresponsive by emergency services in his hotel room after he had been suffering from chest pains. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Def Leppard singer, Joe Elliott, has recently spoken out about the possible cause of Hawkins’ passing. In a backstage video, Elliott revealed that the altitude in Latin America had affected him badly. He even had to see a doctor in a hospital to pull through. He also said that the band had stayed at the Four Seasons in Colombia, where Taylor Hawkins had died. This made Elliott wonder whether this difference in altitude had an impact on Hawkins’ passing as those accustomed to living at sea level may experience problems getting used to staying above sea level.
“The altitude was a bit of an issue. Incidentally, we were staying in the Four Seasons, which is the same hotel Taylor Hawkins passed away in, and I wonder whether altitude had something to do with his death because it’s a bastard; it really is. I was born at sea level, I live at sea level, and to do a gig eight and a half thousand feet above sea level [is] not easy.”
