During Silesia Drum Festival in w Chorzów, Poland, we had the opportunity to interview the artists who performed on stage that day.
One of them was an excellent on-line educator and a great drummer, Siros Vaziri.
One of the things we asked him about was his approach to drum festivals.
BeatIt: We’re catching up with you in Poland, at the Silesia Drum Festival. We’d like to ask you a question about this kind of events. What do you think are the most important things you’d like to convey to the audience compared to a workshop, a lesson, etc.? Because it’s a different environment.
Siros Vaziri: It is, absolutely. I give this a lot of thought before every event, no matter if it’s a festival or a clinic or whatever. Each event is different, even each festival. In general my approach is that a festival is more about playing and giving the audience a quick insight into who I am, what my style is and what I can do. But I am a teacher at heart. I teach, it’s the majority of what I do. I don’t really have the material to just go out and play for an hour and then say ‘Goodbye’. Even if I had the material, I wouldn’t really want that. I want to teach something, I want to give the audience something to take home. So, at a festival like this, I’ll play a few songs, maybe play a solo, and then I have a few core concepts that are important and defining for me, that I want people to take home.
