Legendary drummer, percussionist and singer, Sheila E., dropped her ninth studio album earlier this month. The release is titled “Bailar“, and is Sheila’s first salsa record.
Produced by Sheila E. and Grammy® Award-winning producer Tony Succar, the album pays homage to Latin music’s rich history and features collaborations with the likes of Gloria Estefan, Ruben Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Luis Enrique, José Alberto “El Canario” and Debi Nova.

Sheila Escovedo was born in Oakland, California, and is the daughter of percussionist Pete Escovedo. She gave her first public performance for an audience of 3,000 at the age of 5, appearing alongside her dad. At 19, she made her recording debut as a professional percussionist on Alphonso Johnson’s 1976 album “Yesterday’s Dream“. Since then, she has collaborated (both on drums and percussion) with such icons as George Duke, Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, Diana Ross, Prince (the blockbuster album “Purple Rain“), Gloria Estefan, Phil Collins, Ringo Starr, Beyonce, Cyndi Lauper, Hans Zimmer, Kelly Clarkson.
Sheila was a member of a female group C.O.E.D. (Chronicles of Every Diva), consisting of Sheila E., Kat Dyson, Rhonda Smith and Cassandra O’Neal, with Candy Dulfer as special guest. Apart from “Bailar”, she has eight solo albums under her belt: “The Glamorous Life” (1984), “Romance 1600” (1985), “Sheila E.” (1987), “Sex Cymbal” (1991), “Writes of Passage” (2000), “Heaven” (2001), “Icon” (2013), and “Iconic: Massage for America” (2017).
Sheila E. is a winner of the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. In 2023, she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She is endorsed by the following brands: DW Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Toca, and Innovative Percussion.
