> > > Phil Collins won’t be playing drums on upcoming Genesis tour

Genesis fans are looking forward to the farewell The Last Domino? Tour 2021, which starts in the second half of September. It will be an extraordinary tour, because the musicians of the now classic band will perform together after many years of break.

In addition to Phil Collins, the band was reactivated by two of its co-founders: Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks. They all appeared on the BBC Breakfast program, where they talked about the upcoming tour. However, the dominant topic of the conversation, was not the return of Genesis, but the health of Phil Collins, who admitted during the conversation that he would not play the drums during on the upcoming shows.

My physical form leaves a lot to be desired. It is very frustrating because I would like to play there with my son” – he said. The musician also revealed that he will focus on singing during the concerts, and that his son, Nic Collins, will replace him on drums the way it was on his last solo world tour. “I can barely hold the sticks, especially in my left hand, so there are some physical limitations that bother me a lot.” – the 70-year-old musician confessed.

It is possible that the Genesis tour this autumn will be the last one in the band’s career. When asked about it, Collins didn’t beat around the bush: “We’re all men of a certain age and I think – to some extent – that yes, this is probably the last tour. I just don’t think it’s for me anymore.” – he said.

The musician’s health problems started many years ago. In late 2000, he suffered a serious spine injury, and in 2009 announced that he needed to take a break from playing drums. “My vertebrae are crushing my spinal cord because of the position I play. This is the result of many years of playing. I can’t hold the sticks properly without pain. I used to stick them to my hands so that I could hold them.” – he said.

In 2015, Collins underwent back surgery, unfortunately during his recovery after the surgery, when he was walking on crutches, he stumbled and broke his foot. “I have a damaged nerve in my left arm. The back surgery I had was great, but while I was recovering from crutches, I fell down and broke my foot. When I recovered from foot surgery, I fell again and broke another part of the same foot. Now my right foot is completely numb.” – he reported in an interview with Billboard. Even then, Collins suggested that it would be hard for him to play. “I don’t know if I’ll ever be fit enough to play drums again in concerts.” – Phil said.

Genesis The Last Domino? Tour 2021 was announced in March 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic. In April 2021, the band’s management confirmed that the concerts will take place, both in the United States and in Europe. The first one will be held in Birmingham, UK on September 20, 2021, and the last one on December 16 in Boston, United States.
