On November 17, 2022, Agnieszka Chylińska (probably the most popular female rock singer in Poland in the last three decades) and her band visited the Earth Hall in Poznań, Poland. It also meant a visit from Oskar Podolski, who has been the drummer with the star’s band for some time. We didn’t miss this opportunity to make a few drum cams and talk to Oskar about the most important thing in life, i.e. the drums… 😉
Today, let’s take a look and listen at Oskar interpreting the first hit Agnieszka Chylińska ever had with her former band O.N.A. The song is titled “Drzwi” (“The Door“) and is taken from the classic 1995 album “Modlishka“. Agnieszka is the author of the lyrics, and the music was written by Grzegorz Skawiński.
The live band during the performance features: Agnieszka Chylińska (vocals), Rafał Stępień (keyboards), Błażej Chochorowski (bass guitar), Maciej Mąka (guitar) and Oskar Podolski (drums).
“I have yet to experiment with heads on this kit. At first, I had clear Remos. In general, I’m a Remo guy. I like the texture of their materials, the softness… I prefer white coated heads the most. Only after they’ve been played a little and after they’ve settled, do they sound the way I love. Bottom heads are different each time. Remo Ambasador Coated or a usual resonant, like Remo Diplomat. I like to put a few buds of cotton wool inside the floor tom – it’s a natural compressor. On the Ludwig Supraphonic snare, I’ve got a Remo P77 skin. I’ve been using it for a few years now, but I interchange it with the CS – also coated. I feel the CS has recently has a slightly thinner sound. It all depends on tuning, too. I like the P77 a lot – the warmth it has. I don’t usually put a dampening gel or ring. My Dad gave me this Remo ring in 2004 and I still have it to this day. I prefer this rather than putting gaffer tape on. Tuning rod blocks on the snare and all that stuff. And the bass drum… Remo Powerstroke 3 – also coated, but I interchange that with the clear version. I also use the Powerstroke 4. Obviously, a patch in the middle and that’s it. The reso head is the one that came with the kit.”
“My sticks are the only choice – Vic Firth 5B, but I also use 5A, X5A and 2B. It all depends on the song. I also have the Mike Johnston signature. There’s a pair of AJ1 somewhere here, too.”
