Vater have just announced a new stick model: the Jay Weinberg 908 signature stick.

Playing in a band like Slipknot, a drummer has to have a stick that combines several key elements: response, tone, and feel without sacrificing durability and comfort. Jay Weinberg took all his favorite features of several Vater models that he has used over the years and applied them to his 908 design.

Jay Weinberg‘s 908 is in between a 5A and 5B for a comfortable grip. It adds 1/4″ length for some added reach. The 908 has a quick taper for a slight forward throw but with a fast response. The medium-sized barrel tip delivers a defined ride cymbal tone without lacking volume to cut through while putting out full drum tones.

All these elements are supposed to make the 908 a stick for playing at both medium to high tempos with fast fills, but also for more straight-ahead rock and groove playing.

Basic specs:

Model: VHJW908
Grip: .585″ (1.49cm)
Length: 16.25″ (41.28cm)
Material: Hickory

Jay Weinberg say this about his new stick: “Playing this kind of music for 16 years, I’ve been searching for something that allows for more quickness and response. The 908 has a bit more of a forward throw and a lightning fast response. I’ve experimented a lot and I’ve fallen in love with Vater’s medium barrel tip. It gives me this loud definition for my ride cymbal as well as the attack and volume that I want from my drums.”
