2021 marks the 40th anniversary of Stewart Copeland’s collaboration with Tama. On this occasion, the company launches a special version of The Police’s drummer signature snare drum.
Stewart’s sympathy for Tama began several years earlier, in 1975. While living in London and writing drum reviews for a local magazine, Stewart received a new Imperialstar drum kit for testing. Being a fledgling percussion company at the time, Tama immediately won Stewart’s heart with their exploding sound.
In 2001, with the launch of the first signature series snare drum, Tama wanted to recreate the core of Stewart’s sound. As a tribute to one of the most recognizable drum sounds in popular music, the SC145 was born, quickly becoming a must-have for top recording studios around the world. The clarity and attack of this snare drum is its most unique feature, but also the hallmark of Copeland’s sound.
Now, twenty years later, Tama is celebrating a long partnership with the 40th Anniversary Stewart Copeland Limited Edition Signature Snare Drum. As the manufacturer assures, this rare and valuable antiqued brass shell retains that famous sound while paying tribute to Stewart’s roots. It is worth noting that only 200 pieces of this beautiful instrument will be available all over the world.
