Roland booth during NAMM Show 2017 – the EC-10M Microphone Processor
NAMM Show is the biggest and most important event of this type in the world. This concerns all musical instruments imaginable, PA systems, microphones, software or services, which obviously includes the drums. Each year in January, the immense Anaheim Convention Center becomes home to thousands of exhibitors operating in every branch of the music industry and tens of thousands visitors. This year was no exception.
Having limited ourselves and our reports solely to drum-related ones (which is only natural), we can still say that all the greats of the drumming industry (obviously including ROLAND), all those who count in this business and those who wish to achieve such a status attended NAMM 2017 as exhibitors. Also, we must not forget the artists who were present in Anaheim this year. Those included the likes of Steve Gadd, Steve Smith, Benny Greb, Vinnie Colaiuta, Mike Johnston, Danny Carey, Nicko McBrain, John JR Robinson, Daru Jones, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Gregg Bissonette, Rick Latham, Mikkey Dee and Roland endorsers – the legendary Billy Cobham and the energetic Michael Schack.
We have to say that the V-Drums zone ROLAND put together for this year’s NAMM Show was one of the most interesting and best equipped. Who knows? Perhaps they even defeated the entire drumming competition in that respect. The stage was kept busy by live performances from the likes of the legendary Billy Cobham with his fusion trio and Michael Schack laying fat grooves against David Åhlund’s keyboard passages.
Heidi Joubert
While all this was happening on centre stage, Heidi Joubert – Roland’s Product Specialist, percussion player and brand endorser – presented one of the elctronic instrument gigant manufacturer’s new products. It was the Roland EC-10M mic processor, which is a great addition to the Roland EC-10 hybryd cajon presented at NAMM last year. The processor’s four main functions (microphone, trigger, pad-controlling pedal and looping) are truly worthy of every drummer’s attention, so we just couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to have them showcased exclusively for BeatIt viewers…
