We are testing a Millenium MPS-450 electronic drum kit
What we have here is a drum kit that is priced at the entry level. However, the manufacturer has taken care of several things that make this product more attractive. Let’s get down to the specifics:
1. The test
We tested the instrument in our own studio. The stereo sound was recorded with a Tascam Portacapture recorder and was not additionally mixed.
2. Basic product specification:
Kit configuration:

- 3x 8″ mono mesh head tom pad
- 1x 8″ mesh head bass drum pad
- 1x 12″ mono crash cymbal pad with stop function
- 1x 12″ mono ride cymbal pad with stop function
- 1x 10″ hi-hat pad
- Hi-Hat controller
- Millenium bass drum pedal
Module specs:
- 408 instrument samples
- 30 preset kits
- 10 user kits

- 5 user songs
- Metronome
- Required floor space: approx. 120 x 80 cm
Connectors:
- 2x 6.3 mm jack main outputs
- 1x 3.5 mm stereo jack headphone output
- 1x 3.5 mm stereo jack line input
- 2x 6.3 mm mono jack trigger inputs

- MIDI out
3. Quality of sounds and the instrument at hand
The kit plays quite well, although the quality of many samples leaves a lot to be desired. We can, of course, swap them for ourselves, choosing from 408 wave files, but unfortunately we can’t edit them. We only have a choice of sample volume and sensitivity.
The second thing is the build quality. Unfortunately, the ubiquitous poor quality plastic may indicate that the instrument is rather suitable for playing at home only. Frequent set-up, transporting and connecting cables can very quickly violate the rather delicate construction of the drum kit, so we do not recommend this instrument to people who want to use it at concerts.
The bass drum pedal that is added to the set is also an entry-level model and similarly of low quality. It’s nice that it’s there, but you’ll definitely need to get a new pedal as you continue to practice playing.
The backing tracks are quite an advantage. So are the extensive training features and the metronome. It’s also effortless to set up the kit and connect all the pads to the module.
To sum up: this is indeed a kit for beginner drummers with attractive features and module capabilities. Professional use of this drum kit is an unlikely option.
