Current Scorpions and former Mötorhead drummer Mikkey Dee has recently been featured in a series of commercials for the car manufacturer Volvo.
The videos promoting the Swedish company’s (owned by Geely Holding Group) new line of electric trucks, were filmed in Gothenburg, which happens to be Mikkey’s hometown and the city where Volvo is headquartered. One of the spots, which was shot at the city’s Ullevi Stadium, features Dee performing what Volvo calls “possibly the highest-ever drum solo in the history of heavy metal” hoisted by a Volvo crane at 12.3 meters (40.35 ft).
As Mikkey Dee is licensed to operate heavy vehicles, he gives the trucks a test drive in two other videos.
Mikkey Dee came to prominence as the drummer for King Diamond (1985 – 1989). In 1990, he joined Don Dokken, and a year later he went on to join Mötorhead. He remained the band’s drummer until Lemmy’s passing in 2015. In 2016, he was announced as the new drummer for German hard rock legends Scorpions.
Dee is endorsed by Sonor drums, Paiste cymbals, Evans drum heads and Wincent sticks.
