July 13, 2026 saw the news of the passing of Mike Browning – a prominent drummer and vocalist in the extreme music scene.
Browning was born on May 26, 1964, in Tampa, Florida, and in the early 1980s played an active role in shaping the local death metal scene. He was a co-founder, the first drummer, and vocalist of the band Morbid Angel, with whom he recorded the album *Abominations of Desolation*. After leaving that band, he formed Nocturnus (later Nocturnus A.D.). He also collaborated with such bands as After Death, Acheron, Lethal Prayer, and Lisa The Wolf (with vocalist Lisa Lombardo). He is considered one of the pioneers of extreme metal.
