Mark Richardson & Skunk Anansie – “Because Of You” live for BeatIt

One of iconic rock outfits of the 90s, which Skunk Anansie undoubtedly are, at least in Europe, came to Poland in late February this year to play four club gigs. On Feb 20, they performed at the Teatr Łaźnia Nowa in Krakow, on the 21st, they were at the Stodoła club in Warsaw, on the 22nd, they continued at B90 in Gdańsk and followed it all up with a gig at Centrum Kultury Zamek in Poznań. The beatit.tv team attended the latter show to film the band’s drummer, Mark Richardson, on the job.

Skunk Anansie Drummer Live

You can read our review of this excellent show, which was sold out and enthusiastically received by the audience, in the first of our drum cam posts featuring Mark. Right now, we recomend you get aquainted with what he has to say about the gear he used for this performance:

My friend Ian Bush, Product Manager at Headstock Management, said: ‘Why don’t you give us a go?’. So I went up, I played all the drums and I absolutely loved Tama Star and the Starclassic Birch Bubinga that I’m playing now. I managed to get the Mat Black finish, which is only becoming available now, so I got it before everyone else. It’s a nice, little exclusive for me.

It’s probably the most musical I’ve ever used. I’ve gone two toms up and two down. That was more than just an attempt to play the older stuff (…), which Robbie France recorded. I think he had three up and two down. Just to play them a little bit more akin to they way they were recorded, I went with another tom. (…) It is very different to following the whole John Bonham thing, which I’ve always been obsessed with, than going: ‘Let’s just try something for you and see what happens. It’s been great!.

I’ve got big Zildjian K 20-inch crashes. Because I have everything so far apart, if I can have a little bit more wash with a bit less effort, it just hepls me a little. The K 20s are fenomenal. I’ve got (…) a 20-inch EFX crash just ’cause went off chinas. That is nicely halfway between the two. The ride is Zildjian A 24”. Size does matter, of course!

Drummers and Drummerettes! We give you drummer Mark Richardson and his band Skunk Anansie in a live rendition of the song “Because Of You“, taken from the group’s 2009 “Smashes & Trashes” album featuring their greatest hits and three premiere tracks. Here is the second vid from a series of live drum cam clips shot exclusively for beatit.tv!
