Jack DeJohnette passed away yesterday, October 26, 2025. As reported by the management, the artist died as a result of a ‘congestive heart failure‘. He was 83 years old.

He collaborated with such jazz gigants as: Sun Ra, Charles Lloyd, Freddie Hubbard, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, John Abercrombie, Alice Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, John Scofield, Vernon Reid, Bill Frisell, Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, Bruce Hornsby, or Esperanza Spalding.

He was also a bandleader. His bands incuded: Compost, Directions, New Directions, Special Edition, Trio Beyond, Jack DeJohnette Group. He was a member of The Gateway Trio, and also made records under his own name.

Jack DeJohnette was also an accomplished piano player. He took lessons at Chicago Conservatory of Music, and in the period between 1985 and 2016 he released a number of albums as a pianist as well as an organ and synthesizer player.

He was a two-time Grammy Award winner and a six-time Grammy nominee. In 2007, he was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame.
