During Silesia Drum Festival in w Chorzów, Poland, we had the opportunity to interview the artists who performed on stage that day.
One of them was an excellent on-line educator and a great drummer, Siros Vaziri.
One of the things we asked him about was what to do to become a better drummer.
BeatIt: What do you think are the most important factors to becoming a better drummer?
Siros Vaziri: There are many but I think it’s very important that people are self-sufficient, that you learn to learn on your own. Taking leassons, studying with other people or even going to a drum festival like this one, looking for inspiration, is great. But I think you need to have some sort of system, or at least an approach, or a mentality, so that you are able to learn by yourself. You don’t have to rely on books or people and such. You can sit down behind the kit, have some sort of method to figure things out and take yourself forward. I’m biased because that’s always been how I like to practice from the beginning. I’m self-taught so I had to do it that way but I think that really is helpful because then you can always fall back on yourself.
BeatIt: What you’re saying makes perfect sense because it applies to many different fields. It doesn’t only apply to the drums. Same goes for learning languages.
Siros Vaziri: Absolutely. Some sort of system that you can rely on to keep yourself going forward.
