Over the past year, online education has become a day-to-day routine, and while it’s a great way to share knowledge and learn, there’s no substitute for face-to-face contact with your teacher. Therefore, on behalf of the organizers, we recommend attending the Open Minded Drum Camp 2021, which will be held from 8 to 13 August in Żywiec, Poland. These are six days of revolutionary percussion workshops – two intensive days with Anika Nilles, four days with Claus Hessler and additionally three online classes with Dom Famularo, who also taught classes at the event in person before the pandemic hit last year.
Goals of the camp:
- Share information without unnecessary confusion
- Spend two intense days with Anika Nilles to discuss time, groove and grouping in detail
- Introduce two more topics at master classes with Claus Hessler, supported by hours of intensive training
- Charge the “percussion batteries” during an inspiring, informative meeting with Dom Famularo
- Familiarize the participants with important elements of drumming, such as language, technique, groove and expression
- Provide solid guidance and materials to keep participants engaged throughout the year (the organizers will provide access to further online courses).
The organizers have planned 36 hours of studies, which are divided into three different types of classes:
- Masterclasses on topics selected by teachers – Anika Nilles and Claus Hessler
- Drum Labs – in these classes, the participants will actively practice the topics that were taught in the masterclasses and beyond. This is the time for experiments, new ideas and improvement of existing skills under the close supervision and full support of the teachers.
- Rudimental Workshops – these classes will focus on improving the participants’ current skills and working on their muscles to make them stronger and more in control.
