> > > Charlie Benante’s Paiste cymbal set on tour with Pantera

Last summer, the world of rock and metal was electrified by the news of bassist Rex Brown and singer Phil Anselmo reviving Pantera with Charlie Benante behind the drum kit and Zakk Wylde on the guitar thus replacing the late brothers Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell respectively.

Let’s take a look at the cymbal set that accompanies Charlie’s TAMA drum kit. Of course, we are talking about Paiste here:

A nice set indeed…

Charlie Benante‘s bandmate in Anthrax, guitarist Scott Ian, has recently told Michael Christopher in an interview for Vanyaland:

Oh, man… we’ve known for a long time that if this was ever gonna happen, that he [Charlie Benante] was gonna be the guy. Just his relationship with those guys for decades. There was nobody else that should sit in that seat. If it was ever going to happen – he was certainly going to be the guy, just based on his relationship with Darrell, Vinnie and Phil and Rex. The fact that that’s come to realization and it’s actually happening and he’s up there paying his tribute to Vinnie perfectly – it was amazing. I sat right behind him during the show in Santiago and just got to literally sit right behind him from the ‘Charlie’s eye view’ and it was a lot of fun to get to see that.

As far as the controversy around the Pantera reunion is concerned, Ian said in the same interview:

“[…] I know there’s a lot of people out there with a lot of opinions. That’s how it is. Because of the Internet, everybody gets to put their opinion out there. There’s no editors anymore – it’s just opinions. So if you want my opinion, this is a tribute, and that’s what it is meant to be. This is a tribute to one of the best bands in the history of heavy metal. It’s a tribute that also happens to have two of the band members in it, along with two guys who, I don’t think there’s anyone better to be able to pay tribute to Pantera than Zakk and Charlie.”
