As in the case of drum battles, it is also a controversial issue. There are many drummers who feel this type of drum playing is solely imitative and hardly creative. On the other hand, we have seen and heard drum covers approached in a really imaginative way. Besides, such videos have an obvious educational quality to them, which is important for thousands of young drummers all over the world as they can simply take a close look at how certain figures, fills and grooves should be played. There are also drummers (Meytal Cohen, Lux Drummerette – to name only two), who have been able to build thriving careers around playing drum covers. We certainly do not feel qualified to say who is right or wrong in this respect either. If there are some players willing to perform a drum cover that will not be blocked for reasons of intellectual property protection, we are willing to show it.
