The digital environment is now ubiquitous not only in recording studios, but also on stage and when practicing or giving and taking drum lessons. This alone would make the metronome a device widely available. Meanwhile, the rapid development of smartphones and tablets (and therefore metronome applications for these devices) has resulted in the fact that the metronome has become practically omnipresent, and external devices performing this function have become a thing of the past.
The Camtronome (written by our countryman, Maciej Sznurowski) is one such app.
The Camtronome is an advanced metronome with a recording option, designed to perform live. Key features include: availability for iOS and Android, variable tempo or time signature, organizing metronomes to playlists, using automatic metronomes switching to next from the playlist, creating markers for particular metronome bars so that you can easily navigate there, using speech synthesis to read markers, recording performances with the metronome ticking, file storage in the cloud, or remote control with the help of a Bluetooth controller.
Recently, the fifth version of the app has been made available for Android. The new features include:
- adding metronome track overlay on audio file
- changes in app’s layout with most popular features (simple metronome, practice mode, playlists and loops) moved to handy tabs
- Portuguese translation
