Former Van Halen singer, Sammy Hagar, has recently spoken out about his former bandmate, drummer Alex Van Halen, but also about a possible collaboration with the band’s original vocalist David Lee Roth. In an interview for Ultimate Classic, Hagar said:
“I guess if Dave and Alex teamed up, then, that would be kind of cool, but other than that, there isn’t very much you can do here. You know what I mean with that… It was one of the greatest bands of all time and one of the greatest times in my life musically. So, I think we should start sharing with the people and having fun as well. Alex seems like he just doesn’t want to communicate with anybody. You know, Mike [Michael Anthony – Van Halen’s original bass player] has reached out, and I reached out many times. I don’t know, I’m sure he’s still in pain from the whole thing, but I’m not dogging him. I’m just saying he just really doesn’t want to be friends or doesn’t want to communicate. I don’t know why, but we still got the rest of our lives to work this out. I’m going to live to be a hundred, so I got away. We have got a lot of time to work this out.“
In another interview for Lipps Service with Scott Lips, when asked if Alex Van Halen is currently living as a recluse, Sammy Hagar said:
“Completely. He is very hurt, you know, I talked to people around him, and he’s not coming out of his shell yet. So when he comes out, I would love to [be in touch with him]. I’ve reached out to him four times, but he doesn’t respond to me, to Mikey, to anyone. I know that no one I know has talked to Alex Van Halen except Irving Azoff [music manager, has worked with Journey, The Eagles, Steely Dan, Bon Jovi, to name but a few]. He called him and said ‘Oh, what can I do for you?’ and Alex said ‘Nothing, I ain’t ready.’ So that’s a tough one. Those guys were close.”
