DarWin is a songwriter, guitarist and music producer. With influences ranging from Dream Theater to the Beatles, he writes songs that combine powerful grooves and heavy guitars with intricate vocal harmonies. He creates all the songs, initially playing various instruments himself and recording them on an old 8-track machine. When it comes to guitar playing, he admits to being inspired by Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Nuno Bettencourt, John Petrucci, or James Hetfield.

DarWin is also the name of a band, for which Simon Phillips himself is the drummer, sound engineer, co-producer, but also a keyboardist and co-writer, while the vocal duties are performed by Matt Bissonette (a renowned bassist currently working with Elton John, among others, and previously with David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani, or Rick Springfield; he is the brother of drummer Gregg Bissonette). The trio is supported by bass prodigy Mohini Dey and guitar virtuoso Greg Howe.
The DarWin project began in 2015 when DarWin and Simon recorded the songs “Just One More Day” and “Cosmic Rays”. The recording sessions gradually evolved into the 17-track double album “Origin of Species,” released in 2018. Subsequently, the discography expanded with the albums: “DarWin 2: A Frozen War” (2020), “DarWin 3: Unplugged” (2021), “Five Steps on the Sun” (2024), and the latest, entitled “Distorted Mirror,” will be released this Friday, i.e. September 26.
Oprócz wspomnianej piątki muzyków na najnowszej płycie wystąpiła także cała plejada instrumentalistów i wokalistów. Są to: Derek Sherinian i Julian Pollack (klawisze), Chariya Bissonette (śpiew), Jesse Siebenberg (gitara akustyczna, śpiew), Andy Timmons, Guthrie Govan i Alex Sill (gitary), Billy Sheehan (gitara basowa), Jeff Babko (fortepian, aranżacje instr. smyczkowych) oraz Peter Nickalls (obój, aranżacje instr. smyczkowych).
In addition to the aforementioned five musicians, the latest album also features a whole plethora of instrumentalists and vocalists.
