In 2024, Latin Percussion (LP) continues to celebrate sixty years of being one of the most popular percussion brands in the world with the launch of 60th Anniversary ‘Dandy’ Bongos.
Johnny ‘Dandy’ Rodriguez jr. is a percussion icon whose association with LP goes back to the very founding of the company. He is a world-renowned, pioneering bongocero, who has played with the greatest including more than 30 years with the Tito Puente Orchestra. Dandy is an inspiring and influential bongo player who has played LP instruments for over half a century.
The limited-edition Zebra Wood 60th Anniversary ‘Dandy’ Bongos are a tribute to this masterful musician and the Zebra bongos LP made in the 1970s. LP worked with legendary DW ‘wood whisperer’, John Good, to source the exotic Zebra Wood. The single-ply stave shells of the drums are fitted with a 7-¼“ and 9” rawhide heads and chrome-plated traditional hardware with Cuban-style buttons. Limited to 200 sets worldwide, each set is signed and numbered by Dandy making them truly collectible.
Commenting on these 60th Anniversary ‘Dandy’ Bongos, Dandy said “I have been honored to be a part of LP for over sixty years as I actually met Martin Cohen before he had officially started the business and was coming around to the clubs with his early prototypes of bongos. I am amazed at what LP has become and am proud to be part of the sixtieth anniversary with these limited Zebra Wood bongos. Felicidades LP!”
