BeatIt Test: Meinl MPPS Bass Drum Practice Pad

Some time ago, we tested several Meinl exercise accessories for you (see: HERE). Also in a separate test, we showed you the Tama silent playing and exercise kit (see: HERE). This test was inspired by the bass drum pad included in the Tama True Touch Training Kit. We were looking for something similar in the Meinl offer, and here it is. We present to you the Meinl MDPP Bass Drum Pad.

1. Test

The pad was tested at our recording facility when testing the 6″ and 12″ MEINL Stick & Brush pads as well as the Split Tone pad from the same brand.

16 cm pad width, suitable for a double pedal
Height adjustment makes the system usable with any bass drum pedal
Chrome finish
Weight (incl. box): 1.98 kg

3. Product i functionality

We tested the pad very thoroughly and we can safely say it is an ideal tool for practicing playing precision, especially with the heel down technique. In our opinion, the pad is not suitable for powerful and intense playing, especially with the heel up technique. Unfortunately, the pad does not stay in one place on the floor and needs additional anchoring. The situation can be saved by placing, and thus blocking it, against the wall. On the other hand, the pad has many advantages. It is light, foldable (you can take it with you on the road), its height is adjustable, while its playing surface is wide and lined with sturdy foam that perfectly dampens impacts. If you want to develop your technique of playing quietly on the bass drum pedal (heel down technique) or support your exercises on the pad by playing bar values with your feet, this pad is perfect for such tasks. When playing heel up, the pad should really be placed against the wall.
