Soon to come on BeatIt: Interview & Live Performance from Skunk Anansie Drummer
One of iconic rock outfits of the 90s, which Skunk Anansie undoubtedly are, at least in Europe, came to Poland in late February this year to play four club gigs. On Feb 20, they performed at the Teatr Łaźnia Nowa in Krakow, on the 21st, they were at the Stodoła club in Warsaw, on the 22nd, they continued at B90 in Gdańsk and followed it all up with a gig at Centrum Kultury Zamek in Poznań. The beatit.tv team attended the latter show to interview the band’s drummer, Mark Richardson, and film his performance.
Here is an excerpt from the interview, which will shortly be available on our channel:
First show I ever played was with a bunch of mates at school. I was 14 years old. After six months of rehearsing at school, we still only had rwo songs that we could play, on of which was ‘Run To You’ and the other one was ‘Back In Black’. One day, one of the school teachers walked past and heard us play and he was the singer in a band called The Gels, who headlined the school dosco every year. He said: ‘Do you want to come and play it?’. We said: ‘Well, we’d love to but we’ve only got one song that we can play from start to finish’. He said; ‘Doesn’t matter. Come and play anyway’. We did and we turned all of the heads of the people in the school that normally just breezed straight past us in the corridor and didn’t give us any attention whatsoever. Especially the girls. So I thought: ‘Ok, this is interesting!’. Because girls just (…) had never paid me any attention whatsoever. And then, I was behind the drums and everyone cheered and everyone was looking at the stage. (…) That became a very pivotal moment in my deciding what I wanted to do for a living.
Here is a trailer of the interview and live performance featuring Mark Richardson. Enjoy!
