> > Iggor Cavalera joins Yamaha Family

Many beatit.tv viewers have probably guessed it from the teaser campaign which took place in the recent hours, but now we can officially confirm the following news: drummer Igor Cavalera– founding member of Sepultura, member of Nailbomb and Cavalera Conspiracy – has joined the Yamaha family. Here is what the man himself has to say about the turn of events:

I think, even before I thought of being in a band when I was a little kid, I already liked drums. I started studying Brazilian samba, which was my first choice in music. I started playing a lot of samba rhythms and after that I shifted towards rock music.”

A long time ago, me and my brother [Max Cavalera] started Sepultura back in Brazil, when we were like 14-15. I did that for almost 30 years. At the same time, I always felt like it was not enough. I always wanted to do more stuff.”

One of my first drum kits was a Yamaha, back in the 80s, and it was one of my favourite sounds. So from that moment, I always had a special place for Yamaha. For me, that’s what it’s about. I don’t want to have to push tons of effects to make my drums sound good. It has to be good from here and then we can build something.”

”[The kit] is really cool, man! I have to say the first time I looked, especially with the sparkle finish, I was feeling like a lowrider”.

”My main advice for young drummers, or musicians in general, is just: ’Try out, man!’. You have to try until you find something that clicks and then you can feel that you’re growing. Also, the pressure of playing ’amazing’ is really boring and traumatic. You gotta have fun playing the drums”.

Igor Cavalera’s drum kit configuration:

  • Tom-Tom 10” x 7”
  • Tom-Tom 16” x 14”

  • Snare drum 14” x 6”
