What’s the point in creating a separate category for testing and presenting rack toms? That’s a legitimate question as it’s simply an element of a drum kit. Let’s not forget that a rack tom that is an element of the same kit may be made from a different type of wood than the rack toms or the kick drum. The ply pattern may differ as well. After all, drum companies will do anything to add extra colour to a drum kit and broaden its palette of sounds. Also, the second-hand market is full of separate rack toms circulating on online auction sites. Additionally, drum makers (huge ones like Pearl, Tama, DW, Yamaha, and workshops such as Liberty Drums, Doc Sweeney) offer the possibility of purchasing a single, separate rack tom so a drummer can enrich his or her kit. That’s reason enough to write about this topic.
