The floor tom is almost inseparable from the toms. What’s the point in creating a separate category for testing and presenting floor toms, then? After all, it’s just an element of a drum kit. Let’s not forget that a floor tom that is an element of the same kit may be made from a different type of wood than the rack toms or the kick drum. The ply pattern may differ as well. Drum companies will do anything to add extra colour to a drum kit and broaden its palette of sounds. We should also remember that the second-hand market is full of separate floor toms circulating on online auction sites. Also, drum makers (huge ones like Gretsch, Sonor, Pearl, Tama, DW, Yamaha, or workshops such as Liberty Drums, Doc Sweeney, Craviotto Drums) offer the possibility of purchasing a single, separate floor tom so a drummer can enrich his or her kit. That’s reason enough to write about this topic.
