> > > BeatIt Test: Attack Drumheads Single-ply drumheads set

We have recently picked up a package sent to us by our friends in DrumStore drum shop in Gdynia. When the delivery man has arrived, he gave us a few reallly big boxes. We were really excited to check what was inside! Boxes were full of cymbals, gongs, snare drums and other cool stuff. We didn’t want to waste time, so we quickly began testing all this awesome stuff. Today we are going to showe you some quality skins made by Attack Drumheads.

Attack Drumheads package

ATTACK DRUMHEADS single-ply medium set: our review

The package contains:

  • 10″, 12″ and 16″ single-ply clear tom-tom drumheads
  • 14″ single-ply coated  snare drumhead
  • 22″ single-ply clear bass drum drumhead with a ring

1.Package and the overall look

Drumheads were packed in a cardboard box with the company logo on it. Unfortunatelly there was no information about the content of the package. The extra safety was provided by wrapping every drumhead in a plastic foil. Products are looking great. There are no signs of bad or careless finish. Every single one has a logo on the upper side.

2. Products

  • Single-ply 14″ coated snare head

We came to the conclusion, that this particular drumhead has really similar sound characteristics to the popular Remo skin- Ambassador Coated. Although it’s similar, you can really feel some differences. The sound from Attack Drumhead is more focused, even without any muffling, and has got more lower overtones, which makes the sound more round and warm (this drumhead was tested on the 14″x8″, steel snare drum). Coated surface will be also perfect for players, who are using brushes. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for testing the durability of the coating.

  • Single-ply 22″ clear bass drum head

In this case similarity to the well known Remo Powerstroke P3 Clear is also simply uncanny. Of course there are some significant differences, such as more focused sound (even with no bass drum muffling), and unfortunately it doesn’t have the characteristics that we all love- low frequencies. On the other side we can assure you, that this drumhead has got enough higher frequencies, which will let him cut through the wall of sound.

  •  10″, 12″ and 16″ Single-ply clear tom heads

Again, we can compare these skins to the well known Ambassador Clear by Remo. Attack heads for tom toms are very sonorous and focused. The sound and quality will satisfy even most demanding drummer. That’s why one of the most notable user of these skins is Terry Bozzio himself!

3. Testing

All of the drumheads were tested in the specially adapted room with professional acoustic conditions. We used Natal Drums kit for the procedure. When we were putting the heads on the drums, we have noticed, that they fit the edges just like glove. There was no unnecessary space or any kind of further problems. This made us believe, that this is really high quality product.

4. Summary

ATTACK DRUMHEADS medium set is an interesting alternative to some of the well known products by other, big manufacturers such as Remo or Evans. The whole set costs around 330 PLN. it’s a great price for really durable and great sounding skins. It encourages us to test even more less known products, because giving some things a try can result in very positive way!
